Santa Bárbara Baskets and Buns Procession 2022

This procession began almost 70 years ago, as a way of giving thanks for the harvest. Held on the last Sunday in August, it consists of a line of carriages carrying baskets of fruit, which go from the Shrine of El Calvario to La Palmita, where they salute St Barbara.

In the vicinity of the religious monument, the men bring the baskets to the single women waiting for them, carrying baskets with coloured ribbons on their heads. In their baskets, the women carry little animal-shaped sugar figurines. Following the procession, the baskets are placed in front of the church, where they stay until the end of the celebrations.
