Of Mountains and Seas: Mythological Geographies in Indian Ink

05 August 2022
18 September 2022

This group exhibition is based on the Classic of Mountains and Seas, a classic Chinese text and a compilation of mythic geography and beasts including many geographical and cultural references.

It shows works by various artists chosen by the Chinese community, displaying exotic aesthetic geographies created by natural and cosmic landscapes, ideograms, myths and legends with a common technique: ink on paper. These artists include Deping Lou, Kwan Xiao, Nan Xiao and Gu Ya, whose works show typical elements of Chinese painting. In addition, there are works by photographers Song Chao and Edward Burtynsky, and three pieces produced by local artist Gabriel Roca in China, using traditional Chinese materials and techniques.
