The Timaginas Teatro theatre company are staging their own version of Federico García Lorca’s most renowned play, The House of Bernarda Alba, at the hall and theatre of the University of La Laguna. The Timaginas Teatro version of Lorca’s classic play is faithful to the portrayed period, exploring the psychology and the passion of the female characters.

Upon her second husband’s death, domineering matriarch Bernarda Alba imposes an eight-year mourning period on her household - including her five daughters - in accordance with her family tradition. Her authoritarian personality, along with religious fanaticism and other traits of early-twentieth-century Spain (sometimes referred to as “la España profunda”), contribute to building tension. It is just a matter of time before a tragic denouement brings the whole drama to a close.
