Sacred Museum and Plaza España in Adeje

Southern Tenerife is home to a striking building with distinctive straight, clean lines. The Sacred Museum in Adeje is located next to the town's Plaza España square. The uneven ground in the area is put to good use by creating a space for municipal offices under the square itself, which has been refurbished since it was built to gain more than twice as much space. The building that houses the Sacred Museum includes a cafeteria at the top and an exhibition hall on the lower floors, which are part-way underground. Polished exposed concrete and basalt stone are the key materials used in this modern construction that creates a contrast between the tradition of the historic pieces inside the museum and its contemporary architecture.
