Laurel pigeon

An endemic bird living in Tenerife's laurel forests

The laurel pigeon (Columba junoniae) is one of the two endemic species of pigeons that inhabit the Canarian laurel forests. They usually live in precipitous rocky ravines, though they can also be seen in Los Silos, La Orotava and Santa Úrsula. This endangered species usually nests on the ground or on rocky ledges, which means its eggs and chicks often fall victim to predators such as cats and rats.
