Flixweed

An endemic plant species growing in Teide National Park

Flixweed (Descurainia bourgaeana) is an endemic type of plant that grows in Las Cañadas del Teide in Tenerife. Although this bush is already easily recognisable for its semi-spherical form, it gets covered in unique little yellow flowers in springtime, meaning visitors to this barren volcanic landscape cannot help but notice it. In order to adapt to the area's mountainous weather conditions, the plant creates a sort of microclimate inside it which helps to mitigate the harsh humidity levels and temperatures around it.
