La Casa Azul

The most extraordinary thing about this 1920s building is its Brazilian style, an unusual sight in the area. The reason is that the owner of this "Blue House" was a Canarian man who spent much of his life living in Brazil. The house has a semi-basement and is surrounded by a porticoed veranda. It even had its own pond! It has been the town hall of San Miguel de Abona since 1974. It is interesting to note that this was the first building in the municipality made of concrete. Despite the fact that it lost much of its original decoration after the Spanish Civil War, the repair work carried out during the 1970s restored it to its current appearance. Inside, visitors will find the El Aljibe exhibition hall, which is where the house's water was stored until the 1980s. The hall opened its doors to the public in 2004 with the aim of displaying works of art and providing the town with a multifunctional venue.
