TEA

Museum located in the metropolitan area of Tenerife

Also known as the TEA, the building is the work of the Swiss architects, Herzog and De Meuron and of the Tenerife architect, Virgilio Gutiérrez, and was developed by the Tenerife Cabildo, the island government. It houses the Óscar Domínguez Institute, the Island of Tenerife Photography Centre and the Island library. This makes the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes building an unprecedented cultural infrastructure in the islands, with a total built area of 20,622 m2.

The diagonal elements are foremost in the building, with ramps between the different levels, which are interspersed with windows and passageways. The small glass bricks, of which there are over 1,200 in different sizes and shapes, give it a very dynamic appearance both from the exterior and from the interior.

The centre opened to the public for the first time in 2008. Since then, it has received artistic, cinematographic and musical proposals, including works by Warhol, Ansel Adams, Patti Smith, Carlos Schwartz, Dorothea Lange and Henry Moore, among others. It also has in its possession the Ordóñez Falcón Photography collection, one of the most important private collections in Europe, as well as the largest collection of the works of the Tenerife surrealist painter Óscar Domínguez.
