Trail description
The Chacorche ravine opens up a world of opportunities to discover wonderful sensations along this trail, taking in the delights of its hidden corners, where the light dances over the rocky ridges and the vegetation dazzles visitors with luscious scenery. Its steep walls have been sculpted gradually by the force of water, which also created four underground galleries and a well, which means that this crucial element is present throughout the entire journey. To access the trail, start from Plaza de Ajoreña in Igueste de Candelaria and head towards Los Revolcaderos. You will soon come to a path that follows an earth track past the Well of Chacorche (also known as Joncho) and the Araya Canal. You will then see signs pointing to a turn-off towards the right-hand side of the ravine. After that, the trail leads you up some steps carved into the red-coloured earth known as Almagre. In terms of vegetation, tabaibas dominate this area, but as the ravine gets steeper, the greenery becomes thicker and some of the tabaibas tower as high as 4 m (13 ft)! You will now have entered Corona Forestal Natural Park, a protected nature area populated by Canarian pine trees. When you reach the Chaconche Gulley, surrounded by rosy periwinkles and mayflowers, your journey has ended. Follow the same trail back.
