Stress releasing activities in the sea

In a territory where the sea plays such an important part, water sports are a must. Surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing are three of the most popular.

El Médano is the place to be for windsurfers. This windy spot is full of places where you can store your equipment, workshops for repairing and making boards, and a number of beach bars where you can unwind by the sea.

If you decide to try your surfing skills, you'll be pleased to hear that there are dozens of schools dotted about the Island where they will teach you the basic tips and techniques. For pros, the beach with the best surfing conditions is Fitenia.
Kitesurfing has become really popular on the Island in recent years. The beaches of Los Balos, El Médano and La Tejita, are all in Granadilla de Abona and are the perfect place for this sport. Another way of skimming across the waves is bodyboarding, which is best at El Confital, La Caleta or Alcalá.
Those who prefer a more relaxing experience can hire a small leisure boat and take a trip out to sea, with or without a captain. They are easy to find in the area's marinas, such as San Miguel, Arona (Los Cristianos) and Adeje (Puerto Colón).

Scuba diving is almost compulsory if you spend a few days exploring this volcanic area of the Island. You will discover underwater cones and caves populated by thousands of species of sea animals and plants in the crystal clear ocean floors of Rincón de la Luz. If the thought of breathing under water doesn't tempt you, try snorkelling. All you need is a pair of flippers, a snorkel and some goggles to open your eyes to the Island's colourful and vibrant sea life.
