An Island full of delightful walks

Hiking is a wonderful way to explore the Island and discover first-hand what the difference is between "pahoehoe" lava (a word of Hawaiian origin that refers to flat, rounded lava) and the opposite kind of rugged, rough lava known as "Aa", which is locally called "malpaís" (meaning "badlands" because it is difficult to walk on). When hiking on this kind of lava, it is advisable to wear footwear with thick soles so as to avoid hurting your feet on sharp pointy rocks.

Apart from volcanic scenery, Tenerife's many miles of trails will take you through other breathtaking landscapes such as vast pine forests on Mount La Esperanza and the dense laurel forests of Anaga or Teno. Whichever you choose, you are guaranteed to enjoy breathing in the fresh air of these nature areas, which you are unlikely to find the like of anywhere else in the world.
