Where is the water?

Although La Orotava Valley is particularly humid, water has always been rather scarce on the Island. Therefore, its inhabitants have gone to great lengths to find its sources, which in this case is underground. The Island is crossed by miles of underground waterways that collect the water that seeps through from the surface. These waterways are not open to visitors, however, as they have little ventilation and many have been abandoned.

But of course, this is not the only way of gathering water. Other methods include building tanks to collect rainfall, which can be found in both of these valleys. To get the water to the crops, farmers use traditional irrigation canals known as "atarjeas".
