The Honey Route

On the second weekend of May, a walking tour takes place around the upper part of the municipality of Arico. The mission is to track down some of Tenerife's locally produced honey, one of the richest you will ever taste thanks to its combination of flowers, many of which are native to the Island.

The route includes a visit to the traditional old apiaries of La Sorpresa, which are made of cork or tree trunks. It explores each of the areas that play a key part in the extraction process from flowers such as the bugloss. The tour also includes an explanation of the entire honey production process and a tasting session, as well as a short introduction to the heritage landmarks that can be seen along the way.
