These Sacred Vows Awarded Tenerife Film Commission’s Sustainable Audiovisual Production label

The Irish television series These Sacred Vows, directed by John Butler and produced by Treasure Entertainment for Banijay Rights and RTÉ, has been awarded the Sustainable Audiovisual Production label by Tenerife Film Commission. The distinction recognises the production’s commitment, throughout the filming phase, to a previously defined Sustainability Plan.

Filmed in Tenerife over a three‑month period, from 7 April to 4 July, the production operated across 14 different locations, none of which were situated within protected natural areas. Local production services were provided by Piano Films, the Tenerife‑based division of Spanish production company Anima Stillking.

A Long-Running Production with a Positive Local Impact
The extended duration of the shoot generated a significant positive impact on the local economy. This was achieved through the direct hiring of Tenerife‑based audiovisual professionals and close collaboration with local companies that supplied essential services and equipment for the production. Such partnerships have contributed to strengthening the island’s audiovisual business ecosystem. Key collaborators included Rims, The Boss, Easy Filming, Macan Transitarios, Gomeralia, Air Media and Canary Film Sound.

Sustainability Protocols and Resource Efficiency
From an environmental perspective, These Sacred Vows implemented tailored sustainability protocols across key areas of production, including catering and energy consumption. Resource use was monitored continuously throughout the shoot, with the aim of maximising efficiency and minimising environmental impact.

Notable initiatives included internal measures to reduce food waste, encouraging the use of reusable containers among the crew, and the engagement of local catering services through Gomeralia. On the energy front, the production prioritised local power supply points and the use of portable energy stations (EcoFlows), significantly reducing the shoot’s environmental footprint.

An International Production Company of Reference
Treasure Entertainment is one of Ireland’s leading independent production companies, with a strong track record in film and television at both national and international level. Its credits include Flora and Son and Power Ballad by John Carney; John Butler’s feature film trilogy (Papi Chulo, Handsome Devil and The Stag); Viva by Paddy Breathnach, shortlisted for the Academy Awards; Good Vibrations, nominated for a BAFTA; and all three seasons of the IFTA‑winning series Smother.

The company is currently in post‑production on These Sacred Vows, a project that demonstrates a clear commitment to sustainability without compromising creative excellence, developed in close collaboration with the local audiovisual sector.

Sustainable Production Label
Tenerife Film Commission provides a Decalogue of Good Practices for sustainable audiovisual productions, alongside a verification checklist designed to assess the social, economic and environmental impact of each project and determine eligibility for the Sustainable Production label.
