‘Helen’ won over audiences and the jury thanks to its captivating narrative and technical execution, standing out among the 1,359 productions submitted to the contest, which was held at the emblematic Artistic Metropol hall in Madrid. This award not only recognises the talent of Helio Mira and his team, but also solidifies animation’s place as a powerful art form within independent filmmaking.

The MADRIFF organisation expressed their deep gratitude to all the filmmakers who sent their works, to the jury for their commitment and to the audience for their enthusiasm and support. This year’s contest leaves a legacy of creativity, an effort that will continue to inspire future generations of filmmakers.

‘Helen’ is an instalment of ‘Las Edades de la Locura (The Ages of Madness)’, an anthology of animated short films aimed at adult audiences and inspired by the universe of the iconic writer H.P. Lovecraft. The series tells original stories based on cosmic horror, a hallmark of Lovecraft, tackling adult themes with a modern approach.

The recognition of ‘Helen’, a work produced by the Tenerife studio 3Doubles Producciones, as Best Animation is a reminder of the talent that emerges in independent film festivals and the talent of the Canary Islands.
