MIFA and Marché du Film, our next engagements

Two projects by Canarian filmmakers selected for the MIFA pitches

Tenerife Film Commission will be present at the virtual versions of the MIFA animation market, to be held from 15 to 30 June and at Marché du Film, from 22 to 26 June. Canarian production companies are also taking part in the events, as they do every year. Worth noting are two Tenerife projects that have been selected to the pitches at MIFA, Annecy International Animation Festival.

The first one is the feature film Refugiadas climáticas (Climate Refugees) by Tenerife-born David Baute and produced by Tinglado Films, which is taking part in this prestigious market official pitch. It was selected among more than 600 projects. The visual proposal of this traditional 2D feature is based on real settings and characters through the testimonials of the three leading roles. Three women tell about the tragedy of losing everything because of the effects of climate change and emigrate to start afresh.

Winnipeg, el barco de la esperanza will be presented in the special programme La Liga in Focus after having competed against 38 projects. This feature film is based on Laura Martel’s graphic novel and will be directed by Canarian Elio Quiroga, while the music will be composed once more by Tenerife Diego Navarro. Produced by 3 Doubles Producciones (Tenerife, Spain) Los Otros Films (Chile), Marmita Films (France) and La Ballesta (Spain).

Both projects include Tenerife-born Diego Navarro, a composer of international scope who has penned the music for animation films nominated to the Premio Goya like ‘Atrapa la bandera’ and ‘La Puerta del tiempo’ plus features films like ‘Óscar, una pasión surrealista’ or ‘Mímesis’.

On the other hand, at the Marché du Film the presentation of the new Spanish tax breaks will be especially attractive. Tenerife production companies La Crème Films, InsightsProject Productions, Nu Boyana Canarias and Volcano Films are also attending.
