Countdown to the Tenerife Bluetrail 2023, the highest mountain race in Spain

Tenerife Bluetrail 2023, the highest mountain race in Spain and the second highest in Europe, will take place between 8 and 10 June. However, it will close for registration in just two weeks. Or sooner, if the quota of participants is full. So now is the time to make up your mind and take part in this race, which, as well as being a challenge for its participants, is an excellent opportunity to discover the hidden treasures of the island’s nature. Registrations should be made at www.tenerifebluetrail.com.

The Tenerife Blue Trail is an inclusive race. Although its main category is the ‘Ultra’, there are others in which amateur athletes, as well as children, the elderly or people with some kind of functional diversity can participate and enjoy the extraordinary trails that the island has to offer. Always bearing in mind respect for the environment in general, and in the Teide National Park section in particular.

The Ultra version, the toughest of all, has as its main attraction the crossing of the island from south to north, starting from the Médano coast, reaching an altitude of 3,550 metres and finishing, 103 kilometres later, in Puerto de la Cruz. This will also be the finishing point for the Trail and Trail Relay, which, with a total of 73 kilometres, starts in the highest municipality in Spain, Vilaflor de Chasna.

The Half and Marathon, as well as the Vertical Night Run, are, together with the first two, the ones that offer the greatest diversity of landscapes to their participants. A unique opportunity to run between rocks and volcanic cones or between irregular badlands. These are unique routes that allow the runner to observe the sunrise at high altitude and then advance along paths that cross green laurel forests until reaching the coast of the north of Tenerife.

The Bluetrail Challenge for people with disabilities has three routes: 7.2 kilometres, starting in the beautiful town of Santa Úrsula and finishing, like the rest, in Puerto de la Cruz. The other two types of races, 5 kilometres and 1.2 kilometres, are run entirely in Puerto de la Cruz.

The 5.3-kilometre family race will be open to up to 50 teams of a maximum of five members, which must include at least one adult and one minor. The same distance will have to be covered by the joëlettes race, while the new 500-metre children’s race is aimed at children under the age of seven, who must be accompanied by an adult.

The prices foreseen by the organisation range from 10 euros for the Vertical if you also participate in another modality to 135 euros for the Ultra. In the case of the Bluetrail Challenge and the Joëlettes race, they are free of charge for participants.

In this edition, the Tenerife Blue Trail will opt for the environmental quality seal Green CXM Trail of the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME), a prestigious certification that guarantees that the event meets very rigorous environmental and sustainability requirements.
