La Laguna Historical Film Festival turning into a benchmark

It will take place from October 31 to November 4 in La Laguna, Tenerife

History and cinema go hand in hand for the third consecutive year through the launching of the third edition of the La Laguna Historical Film Festival (FICHLA). This proposal by Festeam Comunicación y Eventos S.L. positions the city of La Laguna as a benchmark for this audio-visual genre.  A selection of content becoming increasingly prominent as a source of inspiration for creative people, and also widely accepted by the audience.  The event will take place from October 31 to November 4 at Espacio Cultural Aguere, in La Laguna.

This project is supported once more by the Local Government of San Cristobal de La Laguna, through the Department of Historical Heritage, as well as by Government of the Canary Islands through the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage.

This time, FICHLA acknowledges history, focusing its theme on the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King.

The big news this year is that two competitions will take place, one focused on feature films and, the other one, on documentaries.  The winners will get the “Witness of History 2018” prize, valued at 1,000 euros.

FICHLA 2018 enters into a historical agreement

Festeam Communication and Events S.L. has entered into an agreement with the prestigious History Channel. Through this collaboration, FICHLA’s management has obtained the exclusive European rights to one of the most anticipated documentaries: “Rise Up: The Movement That Changed America” (also known as “MLK Assassination: 50th Anniversary Special”).

FICHLA will also host the “The Struggle of Lyndon B. Johnson” exhibition, reflecting the hard work by the US president in the battle for racial equality in North America.

More awards with a taste of history

Series with historical content will also be present in this edition.  With the premise of continuing to promote creations of historical content, FICHLA 2018 will grant an award to the prestigious Spanish series “Tiempos de Guerra,” (Times of War) by Atresmedia Televisión and produced in cooperation with Bambú Producciones.

Mueca 2018 – art conquers the streets of Puerto de la Cruz

People rush through the streets. What’s happening? You hear laughter, applause, and amazements of fascination… Ah, an event! But not just any… Puerto de la Cruz celebrates the International Street Art Festival Mueca!

International Street Art Festival Mueca 2018

From May 10th to 13th, up to 60 artists will be performing in Puerto de la Cruz to transform the historic coastal city in the north of Tenerife into a large stage. Music, comedy, theatre, circus and many other disciplines await you throughout the city. You may have some questions now. How do I get to Mueca? Where are all the stages? And the programme? Let’s explain you everything!

What is Mueca… Mueca is you!

Mueca means grimace in English and is much more than an international event. Mueca is a movement and initiative of the entire city that is looking forward to welcoming all the international artists.

From jugglers, acrobats, comedians to avant-garde musicians, a great time awaits you! Also for families with children many shows and innovative events are offered. Mueca is for everybody!

Where is Mueca?

As mentioned before, the Mueca Festival will take place as every year in Puerto de la Cruz, in the beautiful coastal town in the north of Tenerife. The historic centre merges with modern projects such as Puerto Street Art, which transforms the city into a large open-air museum.

How to get to Puerto de la Cruz and Mueca?

You have several opportunities to get to the Festival Mueca:

By public transport: The buses (guaguas) of Titsa are ideal if you don’t stay in Puerto de la Cruz and do not want to drive a car. You can check their website to look for the appropriate lines to get to Puerto de la Cruz without complications.

By Taxi: Servitaxi can take you directly from your hotel or your accommodation to the city centre. It’s the most comfortable way, as you’ll be picked up right from where you are.

By car: Parking in the city centre won’t be easy. Therefore, it is advisable to search for a parking space nearby, then going to the centre on foot or by taxi. We recommend these three (for free): Centro Salud, Los Cachazos and La Paz. You can also park in a parking garage (fee). In that case we recommend you Centro Comercial Martiánez and Plaza de Europa.

As Mueca is also an eco-friendly festival, we recommend you to share a vehicle with your friends and acquaintances.

The stages and places to go at Mueca?

In the programme you can see at a glance where the main Mueca stages (El Peñón, Plaza Europa, Muelle and Nicko) and performances will be. There are also themed streets. We’ll explain you what this is all about:

Calle de la Palabra, the street of the word (Calle La Hoya): The storytellers are the main protagonists in this street.

Calle del Ingenio, the street of wit (Calle San Juan): Here the whole family will have a lot of fun; performances of clowns, magicians and music parades will take place.

Calle de la Música, the street of music (Paseo de San Telmo and Punta del Viento): Two stages, in San Telmo and Punta del Viento, will offer you the best of live music: ska, rock, pop, classical…

Calle del Movimiento, the street of movement (Calle Quintana and Plaza de la Iglesia): Movement and dance lovers will be particularly pleased here and enjoy unique contemporary dance acts.

Calle Creativa, the street of creativity (Calle Mequinez): Drawing, graffiti, music and of course different art exhibitions will enchant Calle Mequinez, one of the historical places of Puerto de la Cruz.

MásMueca, the city revolves around the festival

Mueca fever is on everyone’s mind and so additional activities will be organised by many of the city’s restaurants and bars. Salsa workshops, theatre, concerts of all kinds… When the night falls, Mueca becomes MásMueca! In addition, these bars, restaurants and shops offer special discounts throughout the festival. Support them! They play an important role in the realisation of Mueca.

The accomplices of Mueca

The Mueca Festival would not be possible without the help of the many sponsors and partners. From organisers to collaborators and producers, everyone’s effort makes it possible to continue bringing the best shows to this unique location.

Accommodation during Mueca, where can I stay?

If you prefer to stay in Puerto de la Cruz, no problem. Enjoy different discounts on travel and accommodation.

And if you have any questions about your stay, how to get around or what to visit, the tourist information offices will be happy to help you.

Last but not least, we wish you a lot of fun! See you in Puerto de la Cruz!

Moment of shooting ‘La viajante’

Volcano Films, a veteran Canaries production company, is shooting two feature films in 2018 packed with Canaries talent. The first film, La viajante, directed by Miguel Mejías and co-produced by Digital 104 and Volcano Films, is currently being shot. Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are the perfect locations for this story. Hombres de leche is in pre-production and is directed by Canaries David Pantaleón. This is the first feature of a director whose talent shines in the many short films he has shot.

Ángela, the heroine in La viajante is thirty-something. Her life is dull and quiet, always by the side of her sick mother. When she dies, Ángela aimlessly takes to the road, going across lonely landscapes. During her journey, she meets a mysterious man, Miquel. They decide to travel north together, in a quiet understanding. They spend their last night at a road bar, El ansia de infinitud, a run-down place for lonely night souls. Following a heated argument, Miquel reveals the true reasons behind his journey.

Hombres de leche is a present-day story of two brothers, the sons of the most important goat breeder and cheese producer in the north of the Island of Fuerteventura, don Guillermo Cabrera. The three of them fell out years ago. When their father dies, they learn that in order to have access to the inheritance, their father’s last will was for the two of them to take the goat herd to the other end of the island and give it to Don Oswaldo, the most important goat breeder and cheese producer in the south and Don Guillermo’s main rival. The film will be shot in Tenerife too.

Both films received funds from the Government of the Canary Islands and the crew is made up of Canaries professionals. The cast in Hombres de leche is also from the islands.

Tenerife is a window open to the Atlantic. That is why many of the island’s trails run parallel to the sea, highlighting especially the spectacular sunsets overlooking the ocean and other islands. The volcanic routes of Tenerife seem taken from another planet. Not in vain, in the Mount Teide National Park was filmed the second part of “Clash of the Titans”. Even several “rover” vehicles have been tested here because of the similarity of the ground with that of the lunar surface. You also have the option of doing night trails and the universe itself guides you by illuminating your path to you capture unforgettable memories.

Green routes of Tenerife

Dense trees and bushes form a green paradise where nature breathes and the senses awaken. Whether you are crossing the forest of Agua García or immersing yourself in the magical wetlands of Anaga, you will breathe the fresh air and relax in nature.

Puerto de la Cruz, headquarters of Tenerife Walking Festival 2018

One more year Puerto de la Cruz will be the meeting and starting point of our festival. Its pleasant temperature and its proximity to the sea, makes it the ideal place to share anecdotes and travelling stories after an intense day of walking. For this reason, the event’s official bar, the Dynamic Bar, will offer nightly entertainment and special discounts for the participants.

But you can also explore the city, because on Sunday, May 27th, two free urban tours are offered in Puerto de la Cruz. On the one hand, you can follow the footsteps of the Canarian artist César Manrique or visit the various gardens, i.a. the Botanical Garden, Sitio Litre and Taoro Park.

Tenerife Walking Festival, a sustainable event

One of the commitments of the Tenerife Walking Festival is sustainability, with the “zero footprint“ as the target. This means that the carbon footprint of the festival is calculated, and to compensate for it, measures are analysed to reduce it in future events. With the help of a group of nature-loving volunteers, planting activities are carried out in some areas of the island.

Hiking at your own pace

The best thing about the festival is that its multitude of trails also allows a multitude of experiences.
