The sports calendar of Tenerife 2019 is full of big events and that’s not surprising. Top athletes such as tennis players Dominic Thiem and Karolína Plíšková, both top 10 ATP and WTA, were training on the island for their tournaments this year, but they were not the only ones training with us.
Cyclists like Alberto Contador or Chris Froome; football teams such as Liverpool FC, Manchester City, FC Augsburg or even Olympic swimmers like Sarah Sjöström were in the training camp in Tenerife. Also, the Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 was held on the island last year, with great success. Would you like to know what are the best sporting events in Tenerife this year?

It is the epitome of the hiking festival in Tenerife. The event combines some of the island’s best hiking trails with local traditions, culture, cuisine and encouraging tours of such emblematic places as Anaga or El Teide. And for good reason, because the over 100-kilometre track in Ultra Trail mode is a challenge for all participants. Over 2,000 runners registered for the various modalities in 2018, highlighting the participation of the rarámuri (tarahumara = ethnicity from northern Mexico known for long-distance runs through deserts, canyons, mountains) Lorena Ramírez who finished third in the senior category. This year, the race will take place on June 8th and the registrations are already open.
El Médano is an ideal place to practice windsurfing. This makes it one of the most privileged circuits of the PWA World Championship, which will visit us again in the second half of August. In addition to the World Windsurfing Championships, there will be workshops to repair and create surfboards and training courses, as well as a great range of food and leisure activities.
Santa Cruz Extreme

This run leads through the Anaga Rural Park, which starts from the beach Las Teresitas and leads through the forests of the Laurisilva along old farmhouses. This run offers three different levels of difficulty.
International Marathon of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
One of the most famous international marathons is the Santa Cruz de Tenerife marathon. The last time (fifth edition) 4,000 participants from 60 different countries came together.
