This path takes you on a continuous ascent through some of the most curious places on Mount Teide. The hike starts in Degollada de Guajara and takes you to Alto de Guajara at 2,715 meters. During the ascent you can see the southern slope of the island as well as the rest of the islands of the archipelago.

This hike is one of the hardest and most rewarding trails at the same time in the Teide National Park. Its difficulty is high and it takes about five hours to complete it. The beginning is the Montaña Blanca path, which leads you almost to the top of Mount Teide (only 200 metres from the summit). When you arrive at the viewpoint Mirador de la Fortaleza, you can see the entire northern slope of Tenerife.

If you want to climb the highest summit of Spain, you need a special permit for the last 200 metres to Mount Teide. You can also stay at the Altavista refuge and, if you get up early enough, even see one of the most beautiful sunrises.

It is a circular walk, so the beginning and the end are the same, which makes the route easier. Start the hike in the green forests of Anaga until you reach the rugged coast of Punta del Hidalgo… That’s the challenge of the 10-kilometre Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo trail, which takes about four hours. On the way you will find interesting landscapes, such as the laurel forest to more rural areas or small hamlets such as Chinamada.

This is a particularly beautiful trail at night. In June, the blue bugloss flowers first, and later the red bugloss of Mount Teide. The hike can be easily connected with public transport, both at the beginning and at the end. Therefore, it is advisable to check the timetables in advance, bearing in mind that the total distance takes about four and a half hours.

San José de los Llanos – Montaña Chinyero

It is a low difficulty trail and just under 4 kilometres. The path runs through pine forests and volcanic landscapes typical of the Chinyero area. Chinyero is the last volcano that erupted on Tenerife, more than a century ago. So it’s a great opportunity to explore the island’s recent volcanic history.
