La Orotava’s Corpus Christi Carpets

On the 6th of June, La Orotava celebrates Corpus Christi by laying flower carpets featuring intricate religious and artistic designs along the streets of its historic quarter, a centuries-old tradition that has been officially recognised as a Cultural Heritage Asset. 

The largest and most spectacular carpet, made of sand from Mount Teide, can be seen in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The celebration culminates with a procession that walks over the ephemeral works of art.
