Festival of Our Lady of Help – Güímar

On the 7th of September, Güímar celebrates the Procession of Our Lady of Help, the oldest pilgrimage in the Canary Islands.

The Procession of Our Lady of Help follows the Camino del Socorro from the Church of San Pedro in the centre of Güímar to the Socorro Chapel on Chimisay Beach. One of Tenerife’s most well-attended and moving pilgrimages, it has been declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. The afternoon sees a staging of the Guanche Ceremony, recreating the Virgin’s apparition to the Indigenous people. On the 8th of September, the statue is carried back up to the village.
