All is quiet until something takes the bait. Once you feel the bite, an almighty battle begins. You grip the rod tightly! Your adrenaline is pumping! Your heart beats faster. You pull harder! You reel in even quicker! And so the battle goes on until one of you gives in. Once the struggle is over, you know that it has all been worthwhile. Your sights are already set on the next fish.
There are several marinas, mostly located in the south of the Island, where you will find a wide array of specialised boats in which to enjoy this elite international sport. The vessels are equipped with all of the tackle and crew you need for an unforgettable fishing trip.
Events: The Island currently hosts several internationally renowned sports fishing events, including the Bertram Deep-Sea Fishing Tournament which, since 2013, is the only Spanish competition that qualifies competitors for the Offshore World Championships that are held in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Prohibitions to practise deep-sea fishing in the Canary Islands.
You must comply with the regulations established by the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water of the Canary Islands Government.
It is forbidden:
- Fishing for protected species: bluefin tuna, hake and emperor fish and swordfish.
- To carry out the activity without the corresponding fishing licence. If the activity is carried out on specialised vessels, this is not necessary, as they have a Collective Fishing Licence in accordance with the number of people authorised to sail on the vessel.
- Likewise, there are other species that, in the event of their capture, captains are obliged to declare and these are: Albacore tuna, Big-eyed tuna, Yellowfin tuna.
What is the best time of the year to go deep-sea fishing in Tenerife?
This sport can be practised 365 days a year. It is one of the best places in the world to practise it thanks to the unbeatable water conditions. The waters of Tenerife are an obligatory stop on the main migratory routes of a wide variety of native species. The huge blue marlins and tunas stand out, with the best fishing season for both species being from May to September.
What do I need to go deep-sea fishing?
- Jetties if you come with your own boat.
- Rent a boat (Amarilla Golf and Marina San Miguel).
