La Guancha’s Descent of the Beeches takes its origins from the journey by owners of load-carrying livestock to the mountains to collect branches of beech trees, which were then used to decorate the town square and the streets for the religious procession. The same route is still used today, as are the stopping points where participants would treat local residents to farm products and refreshments on their way through the town streets.
