Cabilla (Rebar)

07 October 2022
08 January 2023

The Tenerife Arts Space (TEA) is hosting an art project by Sol Calero, with contributions from Ana Alenso, ArchivOlares, Rubén D’hers, Tropical Papers, Ernesto Paredano, Lucía Pizzani, Armando Rosales and Christian Vinck.

The project explores modernity in Venezuela in the 1960s and 1970s as the epitome of modernity in Latin America, as a result of the rise in oil production and intensive farming. In those years, mass immigration from the Canary Islands was accompanied by a transfer of both economic practices and images, which shaped utopias and dystopias halfway between the two territories. In this project, Calero sets out to find this newly built identity, often disregarded by high-culture circles.
