Insolación (Heat Stroke)

From 29 September to 21 April 2024, the Tenerife Arts Space (TEA) is hosting a group exhibition including works by Sofía Bassi, José Martín and other artists. Curated by Gilberto González, artistic director at TEA, the exhibition borrows its name from the title of two novels, one by Carmen Laforet and the other by Emilia Pardo Bazán.

In these two novels, the main characters – a teenager and a widow – wake up to a new, harsher, reality after a series of trivial events. Something similar seems to happen in the works shown in the exhibition by Sofía Bassi, José Martín and Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, which introduce divergent narratives in the history of art. As to Ester Partegàs, her works become counter-monuments, reversing the concept of sculpture.
