This new Ópera de Tenerife season will feature an all-time classic: Un ballo in maschera, one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most popular operas. First performed at the Teatro Apollo in Roma in 1859, it is considered to be one of Verdi’s most beautiful operas. A co-production of the Tenerife Auditorium and Teatro Regio di Parma, this version of A Masked Ball moves away from stereotypes while being faithful to the opera’s original spirit.

An opera in three acts, Un ballo in maschera concerns the assassination in 1792 of King Gustav III of Sweden, who was shot while attending a masked ball, victim of a political conspiracy among his aristocratic enemies, whose privileges he attempted to break. A ball seasoned with the most exciting ingredients: forbidden romance, terrifying landscapes, vengeance, violent death, and more.
