José Luis Fajardo
José Luis Fajardo is a multi-talented artist who has worked with painting, drawing and engraving over the course of his career. Born in San Cristóbal de La Laguna in 1941, he entered the art world in the study of his grandfather, Enrique Sánchez. His drawing skills and qualifications in architecture led him to develop his artistic abilities and take part in exhibitions at venues such as the Municipal Museum of Santa Cruz and the Ateneo in La Laguna. His work is characterised by the use of colour and by a highly personal and avant-garde style, with expressionist and abstract touches. His series Retratos mágicos (Magic Portraits) is about the misery of mankind, depicting his characters with very faint outlines, veiled and draped in mystery. This was the starting point for several portrait collections in which the artist experimented with the feelings and gaze of his characters. José Luis Fajardo's work can be found in various countries, including the USA, Switzerland, the UK and Venezuela.
