Walk up Calle Las Cuevas and carefully cross the TF-38 road, then carry on along the path you will see in front of you. The path will guide you gradually into the pine forest until you have to cross the TF-38 road again to continue your uphill hike. Before reaching the ridge of Lomo de las Cuevas del Cuchillo, you will come to a signposted turn-off where you could choose to join the path of Pino de la Leche to the SL-TF 203 Chío - Los Arenales trail, which would take you to the Los Arenales Recreation Area. However, the trail you are on goes past the crossing to carry on upwards. Once you get as high up as Naterito Sánchez, the scenery changes and you will find yourself surrounded by pine trees growing out of the lava. You will then enter a stretch where the vegetation gives way to a malpaís landscape and the scenery reveals fascinating volcanic forms such as pahoehoe sheets of lava, ropey pahoehoe and volcanic tubes. This area is known as Reventón de Pedro Hernández, which also contains an old and very interesting threshing field known as La Era de Barqueto, which was laid over the pahoehoe lava, as well as several volcanic cavities which were once volcanic tubes. The route ends at the junction between the forest track and the TF-38 road. Hypsometry For your own safety, don't forget to check the condition of the trail.
