El Batán

Medium-difficulty trail located in Santa Cruz - La Laguna

This trail starts in the area of Cruz del Carmen, which is reached from the TF-12 road, once you have passed the villages of Las Canteras and Las Mercedes. It has a viewing point, a restaurant and a visitors' centre, and is the site of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen hermitage, built at the end of the 19th Century. The path begins on the right-hand side of the restaurant, up some stone steps.

Continue along a compact dirt track that runs through a dense mass of faya bushes and heather, complemented by some species typical of laurel forests. From this point onwards, avoid all the turns that appear on the left.

After a gentle slope, the route continues to a fork. Once on the track, turn left and walk a few metres until you come to some steps and a stone wall on the right that lead to the El Batán path, from where you have to continue downhill until you reach a recently built track, under which the original path has been buried.

Take the next turn to the left, to continue along the track until you reach the TF-143 road to El Batán.

Once on the road, follow it for about twenty minutes to reach the hamlet of El Batán, from where it is possible to admire excellent views from the chapel square.
