Trail description

This trail links together several hamlets which emerged thanks to the existence of nearby springs or water sources. Setting off from Plaza de La Zarza westwards along Camino de La Fuente, you will come to the spring that supplied water for the whole village. The wooden trough that the animals would drink out of still stands to this day. A little further ahead is the hamlet of El Calvario, with its old chapel. Amidst houses and crops, you will walk over the ridge of Lomo Grande and the top of La Hoya Mena, past the Escobón ravine and along the path of Lomo de Pérez. In the fields around you, the crops are planted in the sand, which is one of the most unique traits of the municipality of Fasnia. The protective layer created by the sand, which is typical in the southern farmland of Tenerife, allowed farmers to grow traditional dry farming crops, especially wheat, barley and potatoes. From the 1930s, irrigated crops became a more preferable option thanks to the underground watercourses that were opened up and to improved water distribution networks. The walk goes on past the nearby Los Castaños Fountain, which stands by the bed of the next ravine. The path then forks, so you will need to veer southeast, down La Morra Cha Luz and back to the Escobón ravine, where the Uzapa fountain stands. Here, the trail crosses the TF-532 road so take extra care at this point. Carry on along Morra Cha Luz to the church of San Isidro, where a lookout point has been built. Take the old pathway from La Sabina Alta to La Zarza, leading you north past the Salvadora Fountain and along Calle Domingo Guillermo and Calle Unión, back to the start of the trail.
