A fluffy blanket of clouds

The sea of clouds gathering below the peaks is one of Tenerife's most characteristic phenomena. The trade winds push the clouds until they are gently brought to a halt by the mountains on the north side of the Island, at altitudes of 600 to 1,800 metres (1,960 to 5,900 feet). This creates a white blanket that looks like a fluffy feather duvet.

If you begin your climb at sea level, you will notice that it feels like you change seasons in just a matter of minutes, with temperatures dropping by up to 10°C (50ºF).
