Rincón de la Luz

A million years ago, spectacular eruptions spewed volcanic material that settled here and was gradually sculpted by the incessant action of the wind and the water. This territory is bright and dry, dominated by ochre tones, beaches and lunar landscapes.

Book yourself in for a tour of the San Blas Environmental Reserve, a fantastic recreation of the Island's history, explore the spectacular geology of the pumice formations in the south or discover the magnetic beauty of Montaña Roja and Montaña Amarilla.

There is a reason why many consider Tenerife to be a magical place: the light that illuminates the Island is unlike that found in any other location. And that glow is most striking in Rincón de la Luz, which means Corner of Light, where everything appears to sparkle due to the clarity of a land that is dominated by ochre tones. The sea, of course, adds to the effect thanks to its deep, penetrating blue.

This corner lies on the southern tip of Tenerife, where its volcanic lands have been shaped by hundreds of particularly intense and violent eruptions. The land is arid, especially in contrast to the humidity that characterises the northern side of Tenerife. Its beauty is weird and wonderful. It is frequently beaten by strong winds, as shown by the traces they have left over the years whilst shaping the landscape.

Of all the tours and trips you can choose from in this territory, we particularly recommend Montaña Pelada and Montaña Roja. Don't miss the chance to climb to the top of Montaña Roja (the Red Mountain) and take in its spectacular views. Montaña Amarilla (the Yellow Mountain) is great for exploring the inside of its crater and then taking a refreshing dip in the sea or going scuba diving to revel in the wonderful depths of the ocean.

At Montaña de Gauza, you will discover just how important volcanoes have been to the local economy. For centuries, volcanic rock was extracted from the dried lava flow and used to produce the local "chasnera" flagstones that are so typical of the Canary Islands' traditional architecture.

The area's light will make you want to be outdoors, which is perfect because Rincón de la Luz has plenty of outdoor activities to offer you. Don't miss out on them! You are bound to find the right one for you.
