Scuba diving

• You must always go diving with somebody else.
• Avoid going to schools that are not properly authorised.
• Safety comes first.
• Be sure to check the weather conditions carefully before going on a dive.
• Bear in mind your own diving skills and the conditions you will be diving in.
• You should tailor your dive to your qualifications and experience.
• You must have valid insurance or a federation licence that covers:
  • Treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.
  • Water and underwater rescue, including by helicopter.
  • Civil Liability Insurance.

You can go diving all year round, with visibility ranging from 10 to 30 metres (30 to 100 feet). Diving conditions may vary, but the water temperature is constant and ranges from 19ºC to 26ºC (66 to 78ºF).

• You will need full diving equipment, which you can get from any of the centres that specialise in this water sport.
• Don't forget to use sunscreen.
• If you plan on diving on your own, you will need the appropriate qualifications, a licence, a certificate and medical insurance. If you go through an authorised scuba diving school, you won't need any of that.

• You won't need a licence if you go diving with an authorised scuba diving school. They will get one for you.
• A diving baptism is a good way of getting a taste for the sport to see if you like it. If you think it's your thing, you can take a scuba diving course to get certified.
• If you already know how to dive and want to go out on your own, you will need a certificate to say you have taken the courses.

Note: Diving baptisms are carried out by accredited diving centres and clubs. They must be performed by professionals who are qualified divemasters.
