When is the best time to windsurf on the island?

You can windsurf all year round in Tenerife, as it is one of the best windsurfing spots in the Canary Islands. The winds are usually from the east and northeast. Depending on the intensity of the wind there are two seasons for windsurfing:

  • Winter (October to April): from 10 to 25 knots approximately.
  • Summer (May to September): from 15 to 30 knots approximately.


Do I need a permit to practise this sport?

You don't need a special permit to windsurf, but we recommend that you are always accompanied by a professional from a windsurfing school or, at least, someone who knows that you're sailing.
