Altavista Refuge on Teide
Mount Teide National Park
Located at an altitude of 3,260 metres, Refugio de Altavista is the only high-mountain accommodation in Parque Nacional del Teide and a strategic location for those wishing to experience the ascent to the summit of Teide at sunrise.
It has capacity for 49 guests, in addition to spaces reserved for on-duty staff and the infirmary. Stays are limited to one night and require prior booking.
Bookings are managed through the official Refugio de Altavista website (www.refugioaltavista.com), where availability can also be checked, reservations completed and up-to-date information on the operation of the facilities consulted.
The facilities include shared dormitories, bed linen provided, toilets, an infirmary and emergency assistance services. The refuge maintains direct coordination with 112 and has basic healthcare resources available when needed.
The refurbishment has transformed Altavista into a more sustainable infrastructure thanks to the incorporation of a solar energy system with battery storage and the implementation of its own wastewater treatment system, significantly reducing its environmental impact in a particularly sensitive natural area.
From the refuge it is possible to continue the ascent to the summit of Teide via the Telesforo Bravo trail. Mountaineers usually begin the route before dawn to reach the peak at sunrise. Access to the final section of the trail leading to the crater is regulated and may require authorisation from Parque Nacional del Teide depending on the timetable and current regulations. Visitors are therefore advised to check the latest conditions before planning their visit.
The approximate ascent time from Montaña Blanca to the refuge is around four hours, while from Altavista to the summit of Teide approximately two additional hours are required, depending on each person's physical condition and weather conditions.
