Close to the historic quarter of La Esperanza, the municipality's main town, is a small laurel forest. Because it is located in the ravine, this woodland area survived the tree-felling and farming work that went on in El Rosario after the conquest. It covers 25,397 m2 (6.28 acres) and stands at between 850 and 875 m (2,788 and 2,870 ft) above sea level.
