The Cave of Achbinico

Also known as the chapel of San Blas, this was the first temple dedicated to the Virgin in Candelaria, and therefore constituted a meeting point for European culture and Guanche traditions. The chapel was built just a few yards away from Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias without altering the original cave, but adapting it to a place of Christian worship. Since the year 2000, the chapel has a bronze reproduction of the original icon of La Candelaria that has been made to fit the exact description of the original. Close to the chapel is the cave of Los Camellos, which was traditionally used as a stable for the camels that transported goods to Candelaria.
